Workplace cannabis use is on the rise and causes impairment, which negatively affects skills such as reaction time, divided attention, cognitive performance, route planning, decision-making, and risk-taking. Employees may be impaired if they use cannabis right before or during work hours and at the most significant safety risk.

In recent years, this has become an increasing concern with legalization, with workplace post-accident-positive cannabis tests growing 204% from 2012 to 2022, and 34% of employees report seeing fellow workers use cannabis during work hours, according to a National Safety Council study.
